Folder3 is a macOS backup app. You sign in with your Folder3 account; that sign-in tells the app where to upload your backups. Encryption keys, schedules and local settings stay on your Mac (including the Keychain and local config files). The app contains no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or automatic update-check services.
The app talks to a backup worker on your computer. Folder3 backs up only to your Folder3 account (our storage). Optional features you turn on may also use network for alert email or webhook delivery. We receive your account sign-in details, the backup objects and the metadata needed to store and restore them, including file path lists in backup manifests. When client-side encryption is on, file contents are encrypted on your Mac before upload with a key that stays on your device, and we cannot recover that key. Alert messages may include your alert address, a device name and short status text about backup rules.
